The aim of the Informatics Laboratory is to develop and promote research at the Department of Computer, Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering and the International Hellenic University on issues related to local and regional development, research and innovation, production improvement, design of innovative products, evaluation and solution of technological problems, as well as modernization of production processes through design,  the development and application of modern and advanced technological methods. For this purpose, the Laboratory undertakes the implementation of funded research programs in partnership with public and private bodies. It aims to develop innovative products, tools, systems and software in the field of the subjects it treats. At the same time, it promotes the cooperation of the members of its Scientific Staff with other research and technology bodies with the aim of creating stable research nuclei, as well as the gathering of experience and know-how within the framework of teams of researchers. Indirectly, through its activities, it supports the qualitative upgrading of the education provided to the Department and the University.

The Informatics Laboratory serves research and educational activities in the fields of Informatics with emphasis on the development of algorithms, software and digital technologies as well as the evaluation, utilization and learning of relevant technologies and products. Specifically, the main cognitive and non-restrictive subjects included in the activities of the Laboratory are:

  • The design and development of modern information systems.
  • Research and development of parallel algorithms in problems of high spatial and temporal complexity.
  • Research and development of digital signal and image processing, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence and their application in other cognitive fields such as bioinformatics, biomedicine, industrial applications, decision making systems, three-dimensional digitization and poetry modeling, etc.
  • The management of large amounts of data and the discovery of hidden patterns of rules and correlations (data analytics) e.g. market trends, business intelligence, website user behavior, etc.
  • The Laboratory also aims to enhance the education provided by organizing undergraduate or postgraduate courses in cutting-edge technological products that help certify trainees by their production companies.
